How To Make Wudu

Wudu (Ablution) is a process of cleaning and preparing ourselves physically, mentally, and spiritually before performing any prayer (Salah). As Muslims, we perform 5 times prayers daily, so we know the proper step-by-step method of performing wudu. This article is for new Muslims who don’t know the perfect way of doing ablution. On our website Online Love Dua you can find so many important articles about Islam.

How to perform Wudu (Ablution) Step by step

Wudu is the most important thing to do before doing any prayer. Here is the proper guide to performing Ablution:

  1. Make Your Intention (Niyyah) To Perform Wudu

The first and most important step of performing wudu is to make your intentions pure and put all your focus on performing Salah (prayer). There are no special words or methods to make your intention as it is a matter of heart and mind.

  2. Say Bismillah

It is important to say Bismillah (in Allah’s name) before starting wudu’s cleaning process. It is not important to say it out loud. You can also say Bismillah in your heart and move to the next step.

  3. Wash your hands three times

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has asked us to wash our right-hand area first. So take water in your left hand, clean your right hand to your wrist, and do the same for the left hand. Remember that water reaches your complete hand, and no area should be left uncleaned.

  4. Clean Your Mouth Three Times

Put some water in your right hand, put it in your mouth, and rinse it three times. Do this process with patience so you can clean your mouth properly.

  5. Inhale Water Into Your Nostrils Three Times

Take some water in your right hand and sniff that water through your nose three times. It will clean your nose properly. Now, this process can look hard to our new Muslim brothers and sisters, but trust me, it is not that hard once you practice it.

  6. Wash Your Face Three Times

Washing your face means cleaning it from ear to ear and from your forehead to your chin. Make sure you have properly cleaned your face. Don’t rush the process of wudu as it takes time, so perform it with patience.

  7. Wash Your Arms Three Times

You must wash your arm from fingertip to elbow and ensure no part is left dry. You have to wash your right arm three times and then wash your left arm.

  8. Wipe Your Head Once

Wipe your head from your forehead to the back of your head with wet hands, then from the back of your head to your forehead. Remember you have to do this process once.

  9. Clean Your Ears Once

In this step, you have to clean your ears inside and out once with wet hands. You have to clean the inside part of your ear with index fingers and use your thumb to clean the back part of your ear.

  10. Wash Your Feet Three Times

First, you must clean your right foot three times and then follow the same process for your left foot. Wash your right foot from toe to ankle and ensure that you do not leave any part dry, especially the back of the ankle and between the toes.

  11. Recite the Shahada and the Dua

After performing all the steps of wudu to clean yourself physically you have to say the following prayer as our beloved prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to say:

“Ash-hadu an la ilaha illal lahu wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasuluh.”

Meaning: “I testify that there is no god but Allah, and I also testify that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.”

After this statement he would make the following dua:

“Allahuma j‘alnee mina tawabeen waj-‘alnee minal mutatahireen”

Meaning: “O Allah, make me among those who seek repentance and make me among those who purify themselves.”

After performing all these steps your Wudu is complete and now you can perform any dua or Salah.
